Soccer Game Preview: Cienega vs. Mica Mountain

The Cienega Bobcats will take on the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Cienega is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to six goals two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Sunnyside on Wednesday. They lost 7-0 to the Blue Devils. The Bobcats have struggled against the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mica Mountain). Their defense stepped up to hand Rio Rico a 5-0 shutout on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Thunderbolts needed considering they were shutout in their previous game.

Their offense was hitting Rio Rico from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal.

Mica Mountain pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 15 goals over those four contests. As for Cienega, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1-1.

Cienega took their win against Mica Mountain when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0. Does Cienega have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mica Mountain turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
