Basketball Recap: John F. Kennedy Comes Up Short

John F. Kennedy suffered their biggest defeat since November 13th on Saturday. They were outmatched by the LEE Volunteers and fell 79-49. The Rockets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-24.

John F. Kennedy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Genesis Hernandez, who went 6-for-7 on her way to 17 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Hernandez has become a key player for the Rockets: the team is 9-4 when she posts at least three steals, but 2-3 otherwise. Makayla Aragon was another key player, putting up 11 points and five steals.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead LEE to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rosanelly Pastrano, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 15 steals. The contest was Pastrano's 43rd in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Nena Alvarado, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 13 boards.

John F. Kennedy's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for LEE, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. John F. Kennedy will face off against Natalia at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for LEE, they will square off against Incarnate Word at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
