Baseball Recap: Coronado Wins Going Away Against Montwood

Coronado won the last time they faced Montwood and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Thunderbirds were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Rams. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Jaxon Baptist tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ben Wilson and Jayden Hernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Wilson went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Hernandez went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Wilson has posted since back in March. Kaleb Guerrero was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Coronado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montwood only posted an OBP of .318.

Coronado is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Montwood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-15-2.

Coincidentally, Coronado and Montwood will both be playing Eastwood the next time they take the field. The Thunderbirds will head out to face the Troopers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Rams will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
