Football Game Preview: Barbe Buccaneers vs. Lafayette Lions + Official Tickets

Barbe has gone 8-1 against Lafayette recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Buccaneers are taking a road trip to take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Lafayette took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Barbe, who comes in off a win.

Barbe's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 49-0 victory over New Iberia. The win was some much needed relief for the Buccaneers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Barbe can attribute much of their success to Jelandon Gray, who threw for 225 yards and four TDs on only 13 passes, and Landon Kirklin, who rushed for 114 yards and one score on only ten carries. Gray has become a key player for the Buccaneers: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise.

Barbe didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited New Iberia to a completion percentage of just 45.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Terrius Lemons and Dedrick Tillman, who each logged one passes deflected. Barbe hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.44 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Barbe's defense didn't let Peyton Landry, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Barbe received some extra help from Bo Armstrong, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, Lafayette played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 42-21 to Acadiana. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Rams are ranked 33rd).

Barbe's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-5. As for Lafayette, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

Barbe was able to grind out a solid win over Lafayette in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 38-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buccaneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
