Basketball Game Preview: Caprock Academy Eagles vs. Plateau Valley Cowboys

The Caprock Academy Eagles will challenge the Plateau Valley Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

On Tuesday, Caprock Academy lost to De Beque at home by a 56-42 margin. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now lost seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Plateau Valley had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.9 points) and they went ahead and made it 14 on Friday. They breezed past the Saints to the tune of 57-23. The Cowboys have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 27 points or more this season.

Caprock Academy better focus on containing Jack Vig and Colter Ralston as the pair were huge in Plateau Valley's win. Vig dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Ralston posted 12 points and five steals. With that strong performance, Vig is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Cash Salazar, who earned six points.

Plateau Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Plateau Valley pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.8 points. As for Caprock Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Caprock Academy was taken down by Plateau Valley 65-34 when the teams last played back in January. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Caprock Academy was down 36-13.
