Softball Recap: Indian River Comes Up Short

Indian River had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-12 to make it five. They took a 16-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oscar Smith Tigers. The Braves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 27-22.

Julia Brewster made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Serenity Hayden was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

As for Oscar Smith, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-13. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

On Oscar Smith's side, the team relied heavily on Faith McGinnis, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI McGinnis has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alessandra Hipple, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.

Looking ahead, Indian River will challenge Grassfield at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oscar Smith, they will take on Lakeland at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.29 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
