Baseball Game Preview: Mercer Island Islanders vs. Juanita Ravens

The Mercer Island Islanders will take on the Juanita Ravens at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Mercer Island was able to grind out a solid victory over Hazen, taking the game 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Islanders.

Chase Koehler looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Mercer Island saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Williamson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Those two runs gave Williamson a new career-high. Cody Anderson was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Juanita hadn't done well against Bellevue recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Juanita had just enough and edged out Bellevue 6-5.

Juanita also got a great performance from Luke Garrett as he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up five earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, Juanita let Ronan Scoffield and Connor Cook run wild. Scoffield scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Cook scored a run while going 3-for-3. Scoffield has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Pham, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Juanita's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Mercer Island, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-4-1.

Mercer Island took their win against Juanita in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3. Will Mercer Island repeat their success, or does Juanita has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
