Softball Recap: Frederick Douglass Takes Down Ranked Lafayette

Frederick Douglass faced Lafayette in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Broncos walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Generals. The win was nothing new for the Broncos as they're now sitting on three straight.

Haley McGuire made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs.

McGuire wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kavery Myrick, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Frederick Douglass' record now sits at 11-5-1. As for Lafayette, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Frederick Douglass will head out to challenge Henry Clay at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something the Broncos will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lafayette, they will head out on the road to square off against East Jessamine at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.79 runs per game on average), something the Generals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
