Baseball Recap: Millersport Comes Up Short

Millersport extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-12 in the process. They came up short against the Grove City Christian Eagles, falling 16-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on Thursday.

Millersport saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Eiginger, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.

As for Grove City Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

On Grove City Christian's side, Cade Wachenschwanz made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Wachenschwanz was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jeff Collins, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Grove City Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-7-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Langsdorf, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Millersport will take on Fairfield Christian Academy at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Lakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Grove City Christian, they will face off against Fisher Catholic at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in the Eagles' favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while the Irish have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
