Basketball Recap: Lincoln Southwest Comes Up Short

Lincoln Southwest was the 72-50 winner over Fremont when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Lincoln Southwest Silver Hawks were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 58-57 to the Fremont Tigers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Silver Hawks came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Tigers are ranked 132nd).

Lincoln Southwest's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Uzziah Sanders, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 20 points. The matchup was Sanders' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakari Wilson, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

Fremont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zach Keaton led the charge by going 6 for 14 en route to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Keaton a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Maurice Bryant, who put up 11 points and eight boards.

Lincoln Southwest's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Fremont, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Lincoln Southwest will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Creighton Prep at 7:15 p.m. on February 4th. Lincoln Southwest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Creighton Prep likes a good challenge. Fremont also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Bryan at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th. Fremont is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.4 points per game this season.
