Basketball Game Preview: Poinciana Eagles vs. Davenport Broncos

The Poinciana Eagles will face off against the Davenport Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Poinciana was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 69-64 to Foundation Academy. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Wednesday (56), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Poinciana got top-tier performance from Javonte Simpson-Lee, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 20 rebounds. Simpson-Lee is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Adriel Marin, who posted nine points.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Davenport had no problem doing just that on Monday. They blew past the Storm 71-41.

Davenport has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-13 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Poinciana, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-9.

Poinciana beat Davenport 60-49 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Poinciana since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
