Softball Recap: Cave Spring Knights vs. Franklin County Eagles

Cave Spring fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Franklin County on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 6-3 to the Eagles. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Caitlyn Karnes spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Cave Spring saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Steffen, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Cave Spring fell to 2-1. As for Franklin County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Coming up, Cave Spring will be playing at home against Pulaski County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Franklin County, they are taking a road trip to challenge Patrick Henry at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
