Basketball Recap: Nylah Mcshan Key Part of a Team Effort in Big Red Win

Steubenville's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-41 win over the Wheeling Park Patriots. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Big Red's disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 120th in Ohio, while the Patriots are ranked fifth in West Virginia).

Steubenville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nylah McShan out in front who went 7 for 16 en route to 14 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Phynyx Fleming, who posted eight points and 12 rebounds.

Steubenville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.4 points per game. As for Wheeling Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.

Steubenville has already played their next contest (against Morgantown), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wheeling Park will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Nitro at 2:00 p.m. on February 15th.
