Mayfield came tearing into Tuesday's game with eight straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Mentor Cardinals. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 3-0 win the Cardinals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

The victory didn't come easy: Mentor scored at least 20 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20.

Devan Calabrese paced Mayfield's offense, picking up 12 kills. Calabrese got some help from Luke Smiley and his 29 assists. Smiley was also solid from the service line: he led the team with four aces.

When it comes to explaining why Mentor lost, don't look at Chazz Weigel. Despite the final result, he had 15 digs and two aces.
