Volleyball Recap: Montgomery Comes Up Short

If Montgomery was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Mar Vista last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Aztecs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sweetwater Red Devils on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 two weeks ago.

Leading Sweetwater to victory were Eldrin Rodriguez and Sergio Salazar. Rodriguez had seven digs and three aces, while Salazar had ten digs, three aces, and two blocks. Salazar is also crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 12 every time he's taken the court this season. Kalvin Arcedera was another key player, getting 18 digs and one assist.

Montgomery has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season. As for Sweetwater, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-7.

Montgomery has already played their next game (against Hilltop), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Sweetwater, they will be taking part in a tournament against Granite Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
