Baseball Recap: Big Sandy Sets Scoring Season-High Against West Hardin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Big Sandy). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the West Hardin Oilers a 24-0 shutout on Friday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Oilers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Cole Richardson looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only four hits, the fewest he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brycen Holifield, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Connor Ratcliff was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Big Sandy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Big Sandy's record now sits at 7-4-1. As for West Hardin, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.
