Baseball Recap: Mount Airy Wins Going Away Against Elkin

Mount Airy barely beat Elkin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Granite Bears put the hurt on the Buckin' Elks with a sharp 11-5 victory on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-4 on Tuesday.

Brody Flippen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Flippen was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

Flippen wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Barnes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. Seth Williams was another, going 3-for-4 with one run.

Mount Airy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mount Airy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Elkin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-14.

Mount Airy has already played their next matchup, a 4-3 victory against Alleghany on the 22nd. As for Elkin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-3 defeat against South Stokes on the 21st.
