Baseball Game Preview: McLean Highlanders vs. St. Albans Bulldogs

The McLean Highlanders will take on the St. Albans Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. McLean's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so St. Albans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

McLean is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Osbourn Park on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-8 win. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, St. Albans entered their tilt with St. Stephen's & St. Agnes on Tuesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They skirted past the Saints 8-6.

Dhillon Cannavo looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Henry Evans, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Myles Upchurch, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

McLean pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for St. Albans, their victory bumped their record up to 15-12.

McLean beat St. Albans 7-2 in their previous meeting back in March of 2016. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
