Basketball Recap: Putnam County Comes Up Short

Putnam County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a hard 45-30 fall against the St. Bede Bruins. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 502nd, while the Bruins are ranked 183rd).

St. Bede's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Bray led the charge by going 7 for 11 en route to 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Bray has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Ehm, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 11 points and three steals.

Putnam County's loss dropped their record down to 5-20. As for St. Bede, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-9.

Putnam County is taking a road trip to take on Dwight at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Bede has already played their next match, a 46-45 defeat against Newman Central Catholic on the 28th.
