Baseball Game Preview: Mitchell Kernels vs. Stevens Raiders

For the second straight game, Mitchell will face off against Stevens. The Kernels will host the Raiders at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mitchell has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mitchell heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Friday. They lost 14-3 to Stevens. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Stevens' part, Ian Beer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Beer has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, Stevens got a massive performance out of Mason Brooks, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Austin Flohr was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Stevens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Stevens pushed their record up to 14-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
