Softball Recap: Union City Takes a Loss

Union City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 17-14 to the Kearny Kardinals. Even if the Soaring Eagles couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Natalia Montenegro stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Zo? Mays, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Union City's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Kearny, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Union City will challenge rival Bayonne at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Kearny is set to face off against their familiar foe Hoboken at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
