Papillion-LaVista South finishes the high school volleyball season ranked No. 1; Palo Alto enters final Xcellent 25 National Rankings.

The California Interscholastic Federation state championships brought an end to the high school volleyball season and brought with it one surprising upset.

Palo Alto, which hadn't played in any high-profile tournaments during the season but had managed to carve out a 40-1 record, knocked off No. 11 Long Beach Poly in the Division I championships to throw one last wrench into the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Volleyball National Rankings, presented by Army National Guard.

The Vikings go into the national rankings at No. 17, just ahead of St. Francis (Mountain View, Calif.), which won the Division II state championship. Long Beach Poly drops to No. 19.

Long Beach Poly's loss meant that there were no changes to last week's top 10, thus leaving Papillion-La Vista South (Papillion, Neb.) as the mythical national champion. Muncie Burris (Muncie, Ind.) finishes in second place and Pope (Marietta, Ga.) is third.
