Recap: Grace Christian Crusaders vs. Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans
The Grace Christian Crusaders put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Wesleyan Christian Academy, posting a 80-39 win on the road. Given Grace Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Wesleyan Christian Academy is ranked 53rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grace Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sarah Strong out in front who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Strong has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Isabella "Isa" Roman, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Wesleyan Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Taylor Hawley, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Hawley is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Blythe Cunningham was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Grace Christian pushed their record up to 19-0 with that victory, which was their 17th straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points per game. As for Wesleyan Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.
Grace Christian will be playing at home against Bishop McGuinness at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop McGuinness is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Wesleyan Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Caldwell Academy at 4:00 p.m. on January 17th. Caldwell Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
