Basketball Recap: Island Coast Gators vs. Gateway Eagles
After flying high against Mariner last Friday, Island Coast came back down to earth. The Island Coast Gators lost to the Gateway Eagles on the road by a 63-48 margin on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 452nd, while the Eagles are ranked 217th).

When it comes to explaining why Island Coast lost, don't look at Izaiah Bacchus. Despite the final result, he went 12 of 17 en route to 29 points and five rebounds. Those 29 points gave Bacchus a new career-high. SirJoshua Anderson was another key player, putting up eight points.
Christopher Davis was his usual excellent self, going 10 for 20 on his way to 24 points in addition to seven steals and five boards for Gateway. Another player making a difference was Andrew Leopold, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds.
Island Coast's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Gateway, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Island Coast has already played their next game (against North Fort Myers), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Gateway didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-51 win against Cape Coral on the 15th.
