Softball Recap: Anaheim Makes It Eight in a Row at Home

Anaheim got themselves on the board against Western on Friday, but Western never followed suit. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over the Pioneers. The victory continues a trend for the Colonists in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won nine in a row.

Cristina Guillen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other pitching news, Abby Barajas looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Anaheim got a massive performance out of Brooke Chavez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Jenna Johnson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Anaheim always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western only posted an OBP of .125.

Anaheim's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Western, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.

Western wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-0 loss against Los Osos on the 29th. Hopefully Anaheim paid attention to the Pioneers' match: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Pioneers at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
