Football Game Preview: Hanover Area Hawkeyes vs. Greater Nanticoke Area Trojans

Hanover Area is 2-8 against Greater Nanticoke Area since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hawkeyes will host the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Hanover Area will be strutting in after a victory while Greater Nanticoke Area will be coming in after a loss.

Hanover Area's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Lake-Lehman 35-0. Considering the Hawkeyes have won five games by more than 34 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hanover Area can attribute much of their success to Dewayne Downey, who rushed for 134 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and Logan Richardson, who threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns. The Hawkeyes are undefeated when Downey posts 100 or more rushing yards, but 2-4 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Greater Nanticoke Area played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 60-7 loss at the hands of Wyoming Area. The Trojans have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Hanover Area now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Greater Nanticoke Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

Hanover Area came out on top in a nail-biter against Greater Nanticoke Area in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 16-14. Do the Hawkeyes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
