Baseball Recap: Pottstown Trojans vs. Upper Perkiomen Indians
Pottstown extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-14-1 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-1 to the Upper Perkiomen Indians, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-2 back in April.
Pottstown saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shawn Pallay, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.
As for Upper Perkiomen, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Considering they have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Upper Perkiomen's side, Cole Pierce made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Pierce also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Upper Perkiomen is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise. Pierce was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Jordin Dice was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. Upper Perkiomen is undefeated when Dice posts two or more runs, but 6-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Saeger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Pottstown will face off against Upper Merion Area at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Upper Perkiomen does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
