Basketball Game Preview: Murtaugh Red Devils vs. Butte County Pirates

The Murtaugh Red Devils will head out on the road to take on the Butte County Pirates at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Murtaugh is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Valley on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Murtaugh had to suffer through a 64-30 loss at the hands of Valley. The Red Devils were down 51-24 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Butte County). They claimed a resounding 79-40 win over Mackay. The victory was familiar territory for the Pirates who have now won four games in a row.

Butte County's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Murtaugh, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

Murtaugh didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Butte County when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 62-57 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Butte County's Tavie Rogers, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.
