Recap: Spencer Greenwave vs. Cairo Syrupmakers

It was a good run, but the Spencer Greenwave unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 78-77 to Cairo. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Spencer's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was KeyShaun Sampton, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kerry Griffin, who scored 12 points.

Spencer's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-2. As for Cairo, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spencer will face off against Kendrick at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kendrick will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 529th, while Spencer is ranked 126th). As for Cairo, they will head out on the road to square off against Hardaway at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
