Basketball Recap: Leake County Takes a Loss

If Leake County was riding high fresh off their 47-12 takedown of Mount Olive last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Leake County Gators were beaten by the Taylorsville Tartars 52-25 on Friday. The Gators' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Leake County still got an impressive performance from Daishone Turner, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds. Turner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 19 games she's played dating back to last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Taylorsville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trinitee Ulmer, who posted 18 points. Ulmer continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aliana Johnson, who earned 15 points.

Leake County's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-12. As for Taylorsville, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-12.

Leake County has already played their next matchup, a 44-21 victory against Stringer on the 24th. As for Taylorsville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 36-23 loss against Newton on the 18th.
