Football Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Southridge Raiders

Mt. Vernon hasn't had much luck against Southridge recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Mt. Vernon will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

Mt. Vernon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They enjoyed a cozy 54-37 victory over North Posey on Friday.

Meanwhile, Southridge came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Rangers 49-13. The Raiders' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Mt. Vernon better keep an eye on Zack Russell. He was instrumental in Southridge's win, rushing for 118 yards and four touchdowns on only seven carries. Russell has become a key player for the Raiders: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 80 rushing yards, but 2-3 otherwise. Grayson Bolling also helped with six scores in total.

Southridge was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 375 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.

Mt. Vernon's record is now 6-3. As for Southridge, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Things could have been worse for Mt. Vernon, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 21-6 loss to Southridge in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
