Softball Game Preview: Falls Lake Firebirds vs. East Wake Academy Eagles

Falls Lake is a perfect 10-0 against East Wake Academy since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Firebirds will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Things were looking good for Falls Lake after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Franklin Academy by a score of 3-2.

Wynterlee Glenn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Falls Lake saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reagan Yancey, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, East Wake Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Rolesville.

Falls Lake's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-10. As for East Wake Academy, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Falls Lake took their victory against East Wake Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Firebirds repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
