Huntington and Westfall are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Huntsmen will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mustangs at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Huntington's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Westfall's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Huntington came into this matchup off a tough six-run loss on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Unioto by a score of 8-6 on Wednesday. The Huntsmen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Huntington got a good showing from Gabe Beardsley, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Troy McDonald made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Jordan, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Westfall, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They never let Adena get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Wednesday. The game marked the Mustangs' most dominant win of the season.
Cash Conrad made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Westfall got a massive performance out of Brenden Tuttle, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Tuttle a new career-high. Jaden Towler was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Westfall was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Huntington's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Westfall, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
