Basketball Recap: Richwood Extends Winning Streak to Five

Richwood entered their tilt with Sterlington on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with an 84-75 win over the Sterlington Panthers. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Panthers are ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Sterlington still got an impressive performance from Cooper Nelson, who went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc on his way to 41 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds. The contest was Nelson's 11th in a row with at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Noah Crain, who went 6-for-12 en route to 17 points.

Richwood's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 90.8 points over those games. As for Sterlington, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-16 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richwood will venture away from home to square off against Bastrop at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bastrop knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 matches -- so hopefully Richwood likes a good challenge. As for Sterlington, they are taking a road trip to take on Carroll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sterlington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.9 points per game this season.
