Baseball Game Preview: Wake Prep Academy Guardians vs. Wakefield Wolverines

The Wake Prep Academy Guardians are taking a road trip to square off against the Wakefield Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Wake Prep Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over South Granville, taking the game 8-3.

Branden Sigman looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Wake Prep Academy let Russell Fowler and Ethan Hernandez run wild. Fowler scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Hernandez scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Hernandez a new career-high in stolen bases. Garrett Watkins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wakefield). Everything went their way against East Wake Academy on Tuesday as Wakefield made off with a 7-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Tyler Rotellini tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Wakefield saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Dudash, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Dudash also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season. Another was Evan Genao, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Wakefield and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Wake Prep Academy, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Wake Prep Academy might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Wakefield when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Wake Prep Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
