Basketball Recap: University Academy Charter Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the University Academy Charter Gryphons were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-40 to the Rock Port Blue Jays. The Gryphons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rock Port's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Meyerkorth, who went 8 for 18 on his way to 20 points and five steals. Meyerkorth has become a key player for Rock Port: the team is undefeated when he posts at least five steals, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Ellis, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals.

University Academy Charter now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Rock Port, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

University Academy Charter will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Guadalupe Centers at 6:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025. Rock Port will take on South Holt in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rock Port is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season.
