Softball Recap: Castle Park Trojans vs. San Ysidro Cougars

Castle Park lost against San Ysidro back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Castle Park Trojans lost 10-2 to the San Ysidro Cougars. Castle Park has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For San Ysidro's part, Victoria Figueroa made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Figueroa has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in 12 consecutive pitching appearances. Figueroa was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Bryanna Ortiz was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Carla Padilla, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Castle Park's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for San Ysidro, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Castle Park will challenge Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for San Ysidro, they will head out on the road to take on Chula Vista Learning Community Charter at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Ysidro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
