Basketball Recap: Walsh Comes Up Short

If Walsh was riding high fresh off their 49-24 takedown of Primero last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Walsh Eagles fell 43-31 to the Kim/Branson Mustangs on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 41-22 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Walsh lost, don't look at Reece Mundell. Despite the final result, she posted ten points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Mundell a new career-high in points.

Even though they lost, Walsh smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Walsh's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Kim/Branson, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Walsh and Kim/Branson could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Walsh will challenge Springfield at 5:00 p.m. on February 7th down 160 places (240 vs. 80). Similarly, Kim/Branson (ranked 157th) will meet Eads (ranked 35th) at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
