Basketball Recap: Northampton County's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Northampton County entered their tilt with Rocky Mount Prep on Saturday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They strolled past the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars with points to spare, taking the game 39-23. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 56-51 back in December of 2024.

Northampton County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Toccara Joyner, who posted 14 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Joyner a new career-high in assists (three). Kaiyah Cherry was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Rocky Mount Prep saw an underclassman step up: freshman Amora Franklin earned no points in addition to nine boards and three steals.

Northampton County's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Rocky Mount Prep, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-11.

Northampton County will venture away from home to challenge Warren County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rocky Mount Prep, they will welcome Northwest Halifax at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
