Softball Recap: Franklin Community Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Franklin Community and Martinsville pushed the score to 16-3 the last time they played Martinsville, but on Wednesday defenses reigned supreme. The Grizzly Cubs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Artesians 3-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Grizzly Cubs as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Bryleigh Carlisle-Haltom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Franklin Community saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adeline Blackwell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Franklin Community hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 6-3 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Franklin Community pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Martinsville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin Community will venture away from home to square off against Shelbyville at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Grizzly Cubs will need to watch out since the Golden Bears have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Martinsville, they will head out to face off against Edgewood at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
