Softball Recap: Fairfield Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hanover

Fairfield made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hanover, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Knights never let the Nighthawks get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Wednesday. The Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Maddy Payne made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Kaylee Stone was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Madilynn Pletka, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Fairfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Fairfield's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Hanover, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Fairfield will head out on the road to take on York Suburban at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.33 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hanover, they will square off against Columbia at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
