Scituate proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by eight) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tiverton Tigers, sneaking past 5-3. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 9-7 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Jackson Scanlon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Scituate saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paul Zolkos, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Travis Howman was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Scituate hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tiverton struck out seven times.

Scituate is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Tiverton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-11.

Coming up, Scituate will take on Tolman at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. Tiverton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
