Baseball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Wheatland

Wheatland put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Macks Creek Pirates as Wheatland made off with a 13-1 victory. Give the Mules' hitters some serious credit: that high-scoring performance was actually the fewest runs they've scored all season.

Nathan Sawyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Sawyer was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brett Dougherty, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI. Andrew Dougherty was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2.

Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .432 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Wheatland pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Macks Creek, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Wheatland will host Greenfield at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Macks Creek, they will face off against Fair Play at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
