Roosevelt hasn't had much luck against Greeley Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Roosevelt Roughriders will head out to square off against the Greeley Central Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Greeley Central is hoping to do what Fort Collins couldn't back in December of 2024: put an end to Roosevelt's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Roosevelt secured a 70-64 W over Fort Collins. Given the Roughriders' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Lambkins are ranked 124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kyla Hollier was her usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double on 40 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Roosevelt's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Grosboll, who posted 13 points.
Roosevelt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Greeley Central earned a 55-42 victory over Loveland on Saturday.
Roosevelt better keep an eye on Madison Sepeda. She was instrumental in Greeley Central's win, going 10 of 21 on her way to 27 points. Sepeda's morning made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaniya Davis, who had 11 points.
The win got Greeley Central back to even at 3-3. As for Roosevelt, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Roosevelt has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Greeley Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Roosevelt ended up a good deal behind Greeley Central when the teams last played back in February of 2019, losing 62-43. Can Roosevelt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
