Softball Game Preview: Calvin Christian Squires vs. Catholic Central Cougars

The Calvin Christian Squires will venture away from home to take on the Catholic Central Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Calvin Christian has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Catholic Central will arrive with ten straight wins.

Calvin Christian's last matchup with Zeeland West could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Saturday. The Squires came up short against the Dux, falling 12-0. The shutout was out of character for the Squires seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Meanwhile, Catholic Central got the win against Holland Christian on Friday by a conclusive 18-8. Considering the Cougars have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Catholic Central got a massive performance out of A Howard, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Howard is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was M Schaendorf, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Catholic Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive contests.

Catholic Central pushed their record up to 19-0-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Calvin Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7-1.
