Baseball Game Preview: St. Edward Eagles vs. North Royalton Bears

The St. Edward Eagles will take on the North Royalton Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither St. Edward nor North Royalton posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

St. Edward fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Strongsville on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 5-1 to the Mustangs. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Langston Lucas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. St. Edward is 3-1 when Lucas allows one or fewer earned runs, but 9-10 otherwise.

Meanwhile, North Royalton waltzed into their game on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Vikings.

North Royalton also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Mason File gave up a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for File.

North Royalton pushed their record up to 13-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for St. Edward, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-11.
