A feisty cat fight will be fought as Covenant Day Lions take on High Point Christian Academy Cougars at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Covenant Day beats High Point Christian Academy with 13 runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Covenant Day put the hurt on Ambassador Christian School with a sharp 13-1 win on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for Covenant Day, who have now won nine matchups in a row.
The team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Allen, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since March 3rd. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Hall, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Covenant Day hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in nine consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while High Point Christian Academy put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Charlotte Christian. High Point Christian Academy blew past Charlotte Christian 10-0. The Cougars have beaten the Knights the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.
The result came thanks to Paisley Dixon's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, High Point Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Landyn Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Malaya Saliba also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Covenant Day pushed their record up to 11-1-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for High Point Christian Academy, their record is now 6-3.
Both Covenant Day and High Point Christian Academy just can't seem to miss. Covenant Day has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. However, it's not like High Point Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Covenant Day couldn't quite get it done against High Point Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 6-2. Can Covenant Day avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
