Basketball Recap: Gaston Bulldogs vs. Glencoe Yellowjackets
The Gaston Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 51-30 defeat at the hands of Glencoe. While losing is never fun, Gaston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 398th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 158th).
Glencoe found their leader in underclassman Kinlee Montgomery, who scored 19 points along with four steals. Montgomery is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Libby King, who scored five points along with two steals.
Gaston has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season. As for Glencoe, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gaston is on the road again on Saturday and plays the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd. The timing is sure in Sand Rock's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while the Bulldogs have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. As for Glencoe, they will square off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Winterboro's defense has only allowed 25.5 points per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' offense will have their work cut out for them.
