Elmore County and Reeltown are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Panthers will challenge the Rebels at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Elmore County will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Elmore County was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Handley on Friday. The Panthers blew past the Tigers 13-2. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Bailey Gardner looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Elmore County let Addy Peaden and Brooklynn Berry run wild. Peaden went 2-for-3 with one home run and five RBI, while Berry went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Berry has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Hicks, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Elmore County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 13-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, Reeltown was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They came up short against Saint James, falling 13-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost four in a row.
The win snapped Elmore County's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 18-14 record. As for Reeltown, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Elmore County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Reeltown struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Elmore County was able to grind out a solid victory over Reeltown when the teams last played back in March of 2019, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
