Basketball Game Preview: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs. Spanish Fork Dons

Maple Mountain is 8-2 against Spanish Fork since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Spanish Fork Dons at 5:15 p.m. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Maple Mountain and seven for Spanish Fork.

Last Tuesday, Maple Mountain came up short against Wasatch and fell 71-60. The Golden Eagles were up 37-23 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the defeat, Maple Mountain got top-tier performance from Leah Bailey, who went 9 of 14 on her way to 27 points and six steals. That's the most steals Bailey has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Autumn Jones, who posted 13 points.

Meanwhile, Spanish Fork ended up a good deal behind Timpview on Tuesday and lost 56-37. While losing is never fun, the Dons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 19th).

Maple Mountain's record is now 7-11. As for Spanish Fork, their record now sits at 3-15.

Maple Mountain didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Spanish Fork in their previous matchup on January 10th, but they still walked away with a 60-54 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maple Mountain since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
